The OST had some really great works, with the rare exception of a few mediocre songs.

The graphics are the best I have seen in a PlayStation RPG. The gameplay involves Serge's quest as he recruits members of both worlds in his search to discover the true nature and purpose of the phenomenon, as well as his role within it.

Players begin the game as Serge, a boy living in a small tropical village in a corner of the world previously unknown in Chrono Trigger, called El Nido, whose idyllic life is threatened when he stumbles onto a gate to a parallel world. Chrono Cross expands on this tradition in a way that not only comments on the implications of Chrono Trigger, but does so in a way that weaves these very concepts into the gameplay fabric itself. Chrono Trigger was famous for allowing the player a remarkable amount of variation in how he/she chose to play the game.

(No weird accents or speech quirks… we pwomise.) Also included with this episode: an answer to the question "is Chrono Cross' soundtrack the greatest soundtrack ever made, and why is that not open to debate?"ĭescription: Jeremy Parish crosses realities to recruit Nadia Oxford and Jared Petty for an in-depth discussion of controversial Squaresoft RPG classic Chrono Cross on the occasion of its 20th anniversary in the U.S. Yes, it turns out Jeremy found two people (Nadia Oxford of USGamer & Axe of the Blood God and Jared Petty of The Top 100 Games Podcast) who love Chrono Cross almost as much as loves Chrono Cross, and the three of them use their passion for good to tell the rest of us why this game matters so much. But what about the sequel, Chrono Cross? Its 20th anniversary (in the U.S.) is just days away and it sold millions of copies, but I never hear people talk about that second game like I do its predecessor - at least, that used to be the case before I listened to this week's episode of Retronauts! Chrono Trigger really is something isn't it? I can't open a "best RPG" or "best SNES game" or "best game EVER" list without Chrono Trigger's familiar box art (courtesy of Akira Toriyama) staring me in the face.
